Replacing Auxiliary Fan Resistor

I have an 85 300SD that had a burned up auxiliary fan resistor. I managed to fish the old one out - it had burned the wires and and was just a charred piece of ceramic. The PO has done some very creative wiring on the air conditioning and one of the leads that I believe went to this resistor had been spliced with a foot long piece of smaller gage wire. At any rate, I have the replacement resistor, but I can't figure out how to install the it under the brake booster. There isn't enough of either of the wires to get to the ends to strip and install spade connectors and I can't see anywhere that the resistor is supposed to mount. The new one has a metal bracket on it that must be intended to mount somewhere.

Is there any way to install the new one without taking the master cylinder and possibly the vacuum booster off? I can't even get my hands in the space between the master cylinder, the fuse box, and the inside section of the engine compartment.
