Clatter clatter Timing Chain's the matter

I'm Experiencing a Clattering noise at low speeds from the engine, (603 yadda yadda yadda) Sounds like the timing chain, it does not do it at idle only when you drive slow or when the RPMS are dropping if you rev the engine a little. Thinking the timing chain is about due... it has 310,958 miles on it.. I can feel the engine stutter with the rattle, Oil pressure is always good, idles at 2bar accelerating is pegged per usual... is my assumption correct

Sounds like you better get into it and find out what is going on. If the chain goes while you are running it, it will go faster then toast.

My car sounds like an old airconditioner when the belt tensioner damper ends wear out. The damper itself is fine. It's the Heim end bushings that wear away allowing the end to rattle about. Putting pressure on the end silences the rattle.

Mines quiet except for some mild valve/lifter chatter when cold. I'm around 150K miles.

Separate chain for the oil pump. Has it's own sprung lever arm tensioner.

Humor me and idle the engine with the tensioner damper upper bolt removed.

I love that picture, Thanks for posting it!
I've idled this engine with the tensioner Shock taken off, Still Rattles, at low driving RPM's the tensioner is brand new, less then 2,000 miles on it, the spring is the only original part left that I did not replace with it. I do wonder how much stretch I have in the chain, might answer some questions

The only garage I can get into right now is the Locomotive shop... but with 2 locomotives under build out... even that's a squeeze, the garage @ home is clogged with junk I'll be binning soon

Is it the kind of crackly rattle noise? It's hard to tell over the natural diesel clatter, but I know that sound. My E300D (OM606) makes that sound too, the audio on the clip sounded veeeery familiar.

the camera diddnt pick up the sound well, It's great picture etc but when it comes to engines it'd have to be more then a foot away and it'll only pick up diesel chatter

Something certainly sounds weird...my throttle also seems much more responsive than yours, and also more smooth at the higher rpms. Of course I am looking to have my injectors rebuilt soon to get rid of some smoke and a little clatter.

Also, my car does not have that pipe running down the length of the engine.

What oil are you running?
Where is your oil dipstick?

I'd also look at the serp tensioner arm's bearing.
