I should change the diff oil in my 300D. I see some weeping around the cover. No signs of seepage through the shaft bellows.

Ditto. Any recommendations for getting the fluid up in there? On my VWs I used to fill the transmission by snaking a hose out through the wheel well.

I find this forum to be very helpful and full of mostly good people! While I don't post very often I am on here every day reading and even have bought a handful of parts from this website. I certainly didn't mean to start up an argument, and will admit that name calling can be quite petty. I will stand by the fact that any objective reader of the first four posts in this thread will find one person to be demeaning and frankly rude. I am willing to shake the persons hand and say it's all water under the bridge. I love my MB diesel and hope to keep it running for a long time, and I'm sure I will need help again from this forum in the future. Next time I will try not to take what I see to be demeaning comments so personally. Thanks for any and all past or future help. Shane

It took me five posts to reach that conclusion!!! (Maybe I am suffering from an objectivity deficit.)

I decided it would be best to just go ahead and change the fluid. I couldn't get the plug out even after soaking with penetrating fluid over night. The impact wouldn't even budge it! I put some heat to it with my little mapp gas torch and hit it with the impact again and it came right out. I guess I'll have to monitor the fluid more closely in the future.

just everybody needs to keep in mind that TEXT responses are difficult for humans to understand.
see what I mean?

Human Beings are VISUAL communicators. a message may seem outright insulting or demeaning when read by one person, and seem simply factual when read by someone else. it really depends on the mood or frame of mind an individual is in when they are reading. it's why BOOKS are such fantastic vehicles. they spark OUR imagination and emotions.
it's best on a forum to simply read responses, and not take them personally.
it's also why forums usually have the rule not to attack a member for a posted idea or statement, just address or comment on the idea itself.
now, posting insulting words, or images sets the idea right in front of everybody, and that will get members riled!

the response by BC "why would you think that" can be taken many ways, but on a text forum, it's best to just take the information and not take it personally.

I get into trouble all the time with text messages. it seems women and men have different interpretations of words...

now everybody shake hands, and lets try to be helpful and receptive to help!!!
thanks!
Hey John,
We can but hope that every one has learned from O'l Smokey's original post & is under their car today checking the diff oil !!!!!

Maybe that is the reason behind his first post.

If I ever jump down some ones throat on here when they fess up to discovering what some may see as obvious, I would expect to be seen by others as an *********** *********** .

Your comments about text are so true. Say it to some ones face, never put it writing !!!

You didn't do no wrong. The guy runs runs his mouth like that freely here. It's best just to blow right past his posts.

And I will stand by the fact that there were no demeaning statements made and there were certainly no rude statements made.

I asked you a simple set of questions that would allow the readers of this thread to get a handle on why you believe your own data.

I'm quite convinced your conclusions are false, but, if you can show the data that supports your position, I'm absolutely willing to consider it.

Most people on this forum draw conclusions that are wildly in error due to the lack of data. You are not the first and you certainly will not be the last.

I'm sorry if you have no backbone and run off all pissed off if someone requests data to support your conclusions. Personally, I'm a bit tired of folks posting wildly inaccurate data on here with reckless abandon and I intend to call them on it whenever it occurs.
