Adjust transmission shift rod to get my reverse lights back?

I changed the two shifter bushings attached to the rod underneath the car a couple of months ago and just realized the other day that I have no reverse lights. I've checked both the bulbs and the fuse. After replacing the bushings the shift knob wouldn't line up with the letters on the console but shifted fine so I didn't bother to adjust the rod. Here are some pics to show where the shifter currently is. In what gear should the transmission be in to make the adjustment? Any tips? thanks

The position of the shifter has nothing to do with the lights coming on, the switch lines up with the positions on the transmission, if they do not come on in reverse the switch probably failed, its pretty common.

There should be

A Neutral Position that allows the Insertion of a small drill bit or allen wrench
which "Locks" the Tranny Shifter Lever allowing adjustment of the rods.
(Under the Chassis)

I have the same issue. When in "R" I toggle the shifter handle forward a bit to get the reverse light to engage. When I am in "D" the shifters reads that I am in 2nd. Shifts fine however.

Embarrassing fix

So I went to the junk yard to pull a NSS and in the process got a better understanding of how it works in relation to the shift lever on the transmission. I began to doubt whether or not I put the lever back on properly after installing the bushing. I went to start the car in Drive and it fired right up. My NSS had been in the neutral position for the past 2 months, thus no reverse lights. This morning I got under the car and realized that I installed the lever back onto the transmission backwards This also explains why my shifter wasn't lining up with the letters correctly. Now I have reverse lights, and a spare NSS.
