W115 240D fuel problem ?

Hi All,
I woud be most grateful for your help again. I tried to start my car after a few years without luck. Members on the forum gave me good advice regarding air in the fuel system and to hand pump to expel air. I have tried this bit I feel no resistance or pressure when I pump system. Could anyone put me on the right path on the procedure to take,

I attach 2 photos. Could someone tell me what they are. One appears to be a soloniod and the one that is pink is attached to a level that is attached to the fuel. I think it is a vacuume system. Sorry for my ignorance. Many thanks. R.P

Sorry, I don't recognize that stuff. Try putting diesel in a soda bottle and feeding it directly into the filter just before the lift pump and see if you get fuel when pumping.

Thanks Kerry. Will try that tomorrow. You may not recognise these parts as the car was originally a petrol so they might not be in the right places as a original 240D. If I get no luck I will post more pictures with a drawing.
Kind regards. R.P.

That explains a lot. The original peterol car wouldn't have had a vacuum shut off. Someone probably put a solenoid switch activated by the key which sends vacuum to the shut off diaphragm on the injection pump.

That makes sense kerry. Could that mean if the solenoid was faulty it could be part of the problem. R.P.

Yes. Pull the vacuum line off the shut off valve on the back of the injection pump just to make sure the pump can get fuel.

If you're not feeling resistance and hearing a squishing/sweaking noise when using the primer pump then your primer is dead. But a bad primer pump shouldn't keep you from starting the car, unless it's leaking fuel. Does it squish fuel out a bunch when you pump it?

I'd also suspect your shut-off system. Try what kerry suggested and see what happens.

Since it is a converted gasser I am not sure if the fuel system is looped or not. You may have trouble since it's pulling fuel one way only.

Hi. Carried out instructions as suggested, still the car will not start. I filled up the secondary filter, there is fuel in the glass filter. When I hand pump I can see fuel in the line with air bubbles moving towards the inlet of the secondary filter. I think I have a looped system as I have 2 fuel pipes from the tank, one going to the glass filter and one going to the secondary filter. . Can I disconnect the fuel lines at the the injectors and quickly crank the engine to check if fuel is getting through. I also noticed a small screwed nut at the right hand side of the pump on top, can I top up fuel through there.. Many thanks R.P.
