A First: Second Time Replacing the Same Part

Well, I guess I'm now pretty deeply into this Mercedes diesel thing. For the first time, I'll be replacing the same part a second time (filters, etc. don't count). My auxiliarly water pump needed to be replaced at 155,000 miles now I'll have to do it again at 231,000 miles.

Sounds like you got good service out of the replacement pump.

At least I know how to replace it myself this time around! Back in 2005, I paid my indie $300 to replace it. This time, I'll pay just $70 for the part.

What happens if you just unplug it and leave it?

Get some Uro brand parts and you'll have more frequent second times.
