which year is my car???

Hi,

Prowd owner of what I thought was an 82. I got the titrle transferred today, and to my surprise, it said 1983. I wasnt going to fight it, but heres my question:
They guy I bought it from said it was an 82. On the plackards in the car it says that it was built in 11/82. Perhaps he bought an 83 model in very late 82, thus not remembering what year it really was after 20 years (he was the original owner, but got the title transferred to becaome a "company car" a few years back).
Are there any subtle differences that may tip me off? Not that it really matters too much, but Im just interested. Thanks

JMH

Yup.

This is common practice.
The build date doesn't equal the model year.

It'll also list the model year in the last sentence of the emission label, which is on the radiator support.

Question Another one...

Same with my 300TD...Title says 1981, stamp on door says 5/81, dieseldon thinks it is '82. Does it really matter? I guess I ask because I have some minor body/trim work to be done, and I want to know which years are compatible.
Thanks!

My son has a 1983 Ford Ranger pickup. It's build date was
June 1982 and it went into service in August 1982.

It seems that 82 model year was the last year they put chrome grilles under the wiper blades. Assuming yours is a 300. 240s were always black as far as I know, but I noticed when I was looking for one to buy, that 83 and above 300Ds, CDs and TDs, were black plastic. I had planned to swap them out for chromies if I bought a newer one because the chrome looks cooler. Which kind do you have? I hope this helps.
