Transmission Leak HELP..

This leak is on a transmission in a 1982 300sd. Pulled into the garage and when the care is running, there is a severe leak, I thought at first it was the pan gasket but upon closer inspection it is coming from a port above the pan on the passenger side. I borrowed a picture from another thread (not the same tranny but it has the same port) I circled the port in red. It seems to be leaking from the center cover, there is a snap ring with a metal shield behind it. I can remove the allen bolts if I need to.

Does the tranny need to be dropped to replace? Any useful information would be appreciated

Secondary Pump orifice

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/308281-help-stuck-road-722-3-no-3rd-4th-gear-4.html

see army's reply #53 which has a Link to the Russian ILCAT with pictures and
Part numbers.

http://mb.ilcats.ru/part/class/1/ccode/F/cat/67R/type/722/subtype/315/group/27/subgr//vers//imgno/7

#493 in the ILCAT is the "Locking Ring"(Circlip we'd call it) you see inset into the
orifice.
#s 484,487 and 490 are all "Seal Rings" (O-rings to us)

If the #484 is the problem it looks like the Secondary Pump has to be pulled out
to get to it.

If either 487 or 490 (Or both)are the problem , you can access them by pushing in the Cover "Slightly" and removing the "Locking Ring".

All Kinds of reading here:

Please note the ILCATS parts numbers are specific to the Transmission that
is listed AND MAY NOT BE THE SAME FOR YOUR TRANSMISSION.
You can however Look up your Parts Numbers on ILCAT or the MBUSA
website:
EPC-net Online - Subscription Step 1 of 3
If you're a US customer the Site is FREE,they'll ask for a U.S. Based credit card number to prove you're one of their customers,But no charges will accrue.

The ATSG manual for your transmission would be a great help!
A Link for it is here somewhere in the archives ("Advanced, Search" Option)
