1983 300DT transmission slipping
Hi, we have a 1983 300DT with 390K miles. Thing runs like a top but my son tells me it ran fine last night but this morning car transmission is slipping. It works fine in reverse and will not start forward. if it gets rolling until it reaches about 15mph it hooks up and can be driven as normal but when you come to a stop it cannot move forward again the motor revs up but transmission slips. it appears to be full of fluid (although there has been recently a small leak in the front seal but just a couple of drips). where do i start first? could it be an adjustment or is it dead? the car isn't really worth the price of a rebuild unless it is cheaper than i think

If it works once it gets up to 15mph, it sounds like the front pump has failed and the rear pump is allowing it to function once the car is moving. Pull one of the cooler lines and see if it is pumping fluid at idle in park.
