87 300TDT Brake Job
Good Day! I am going to endeavor to change the brakes on my '87 300TDT. In doing so, I hit the brake page on peachparts.com (1987 Mercedes Benz 300td BrakeProduct Subcategories - Peachparts).
I need new front pads. Can anyone make a recommendation? Are the most expensive on the page worth the $? Should I replace the sensors? Are there any other parts I will need? I will check the back pads. Should I just replace them even if they do not need it? The vehicle is only 6 months in my possession. I do not know when they were last changed. Will I need any special tools? This is going to be my first big project of the new year. :-) As always, Thank You for Your Anticipated Advice! glenn |

it's not a big project at all. 87 original front calipers are different from the 123/126 opposed piston calipers, IIRC, they have only one piston, and the entire caliper slides to grab the rotor.
it's a good idea to clean everything, and grease the pins the caliper slides on. the rears are the same as older MB's dual piston opposed, drive out the pins, and pull the pads. be sure and inspect the hoses, and if they don't look in prime shape, change them. if your pads have not worn to the point of contacting the sensors, and you can get the sensors out of the pads, there is no issue reusing them, they are only a couple dollars though... and I usually break them getting them out of the pads.
