Diesel in a 4Runner?

OK, I'm just bouncing this idea around, probably not really serious and won't do it because I'd have to pay somebody to do it for me, but what do y'all think anyhow?

I have the "opportunity" to get my hands on a 90 V6 Toyota 4Runner 4wd with a toasted motor for nothing. Sorry I don't at this point know if it's an auto or a 5spd. The kid who destroyed it is currently enjoying an extended stay in the Roy Rogers Home for Naughty Boys and his mother just wants it gone. She's got the title, no worries there.

My son started this, said "could you put a 300D motor in that thing?"

the 4runner engine compartment is pretty short... I don't think two extra cylinders in length will fit...

Check the 4x4wire.com board. There are a couple of successful conversions into early tundra bodies, I think; but as vstech wrote, they're likely 616's, for room.

Why "Hack" it ?

Run on Down to M. Noriega's Former Home Base and pick up a Fresh New
3.0 L Turbodiesel 4Runner.

Driving it back up the Pan Am and then "Sneaking Across" will be an Adventure!

Wow. Thanks for those links. Looks:

expensive
frustrating
time consuming
like a project that will get me banned from the household slush fund forever

wonder what a nice rebuilt Toy V6 will cost me......

Yes, but it fits. I would do a 4BT cummins or a stock 3.0.

A stock 3.0 will run about 1400 used and a gazillion new.

Run an Isuzu 4bd or a cummins 4bt. I'm doing an Isuzu swap into a suburban.
