full flow filter replacement- 73" 220D

In the process of cleaning the full flow filter disk in gas today, I tore the nylon mesh in 5-6 spots. I called around, couldn't locate a replacement, and had to reinstall the damaged filter. I drove 15 miles or so before getting paranoid about the damage I could be causing to the car. Is it safe to run with this filter damaged? And I can't find a replacement part, dealership thinks they can get it, for $45. Anyone have a good source online for these? Thanks!

My 76 300D didnt even have one in it when i got the car, i installed one as soon as i was aware it was missing. I got it at the dealer, it wasn't expensive.

I cannot find the thing on PeachParts. You can find them on the net, even eBay, for less than $20. AutohauzAZ has them for less than $18. See attached.

I keep several of them on hand: that filter system is so poor, it needs to be maintained perfectly.

I use the pleated paper filters for the other filter, not the cotton things. NAPA has them. Ron

Nice, thank you. Ordered one from ********AZ for a third of what the dealer wanted. Appreciate the replies and look forward to being part of the community. This car is turning out to be a lifestyle. There is always something that needs work. Next up is the rear and front window seals and then the rusted out floor pans.
