124 Diesels Check Aux fan done

I followed the instructions from this forum member and changed my auxiliary fans. w124 Aux Fan

On my 1992 300D 2.5 T you don't need to remove the headlight and turn signal lenses. An 8 mm gear wrench would be helpful. Using a small adjustable wrench was a pain. Also got a bunch of stuff cleaned out of the A/C condenser. My diesel will love me when I'm sitting in traffic with the A/C on this summer. If your fans don't work this is a good job. Diesels run cool usually but on a hot sunny day in traffic with the A/C on you will want your aux fans at full strength.

What did you do with the pushpins on the shroud? Any tips for getting them out without breaking them?

broke them and pushed the pins through. I have the shroud sitting at a decent place. Will get some at my Indy or the Dealer on Monday. I looked at all the auto parts stores near where I live and couldn't find a suitable one. I would think if you could get something to adhere to it so you could pull the entire top of the pin together. You might be able to break one and then get behind the other ones and push them out from behind. I would think that would be your best bet.

I really don't believe removing the bumper gained me much accept maybe easier access to the bottom brace bolt in the middle. I struggled trying to get it from above but I got underneath and got the bolt right in the hole.

who am I kidding. Atlanta Classic Cars is right across the street from where I work. I'll be going to the dealer. I like my indy but just no time.

One last idea on the nylon rivets. Use a push pin, tack, small nail or screw as an easy out. If you can get one into the center of the pin of the rivet and get it to grip without expanding the center of the pin too much you might be able to pull them out that way.

However even at $3.00 a piece its a good excuse to spend a few minutes at the dealer at lunch time.
