Where is the tank strainer on a 1995 E300D?
Where is the tank strainer on a 1995 E300D? I cannot locate it underneath. The tank sending unit is easy to take out and looked very clean. Can someone please tell me where this strainer is exactly? Thanks again

On the wagon it's in the middle of the bottom of the tank, think it's a 22 or 24 hex. I'm guessing it's the same set up for the sedan.

A few weeks ago, I cleaned my 95's tank strainer and anti-slosh bowl, but I removed the entire tank and did the job on the garage floor - with carb cleaner spray. There was tons of gunk in the bowl (inside the tank) and on the screen. I couldn't have cleaned it with the tank in place. Only 4 nuts hold it in place. Biggest pain was removing the last bit of fuel. I did this with a cheapy hand pump from Harbor Freight. DIdn't even take a diesel bath.

What about a '91?
I have a '91 300d. Is cleaning out a strainer something I should do, too?
My car runs fine, so if it ain't broke..... don't fix it. However, I do believe in preventive maintenance. I probably won't check this thread again, so private message me or email with an answer on this one. And how hard is it to do? I like the thought of just doing it with a pump, etc. I don't want to take my entire fuel tank off, thank you. |
