Reattaching main vac line to vac pump

I removed the hard plastic vacuum line coming off my vacuum pump and now I'm going to reattach it. I was surprised that I didn't find anything while searching, is it a mistake to remove this line or just so easy to do that no one asks?

Anyhow, I was thinking of using a heat gun (for removing paint) to heat the end of the tube and then just push it over the nipple on the vacuum pump.

Sound like a good plan or might it leak?

This is my '87 300SDL.

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

the 87 must be drastically different from the 81 because mine has a screw on fitting. the fitting is permanently attached to the hose and screws onto the top of the vacuum pump. what's yours like?

You didn't just unscrew it from the fitting on the pump?

I replaced my Main Vacuum line Plastic Tubing with Rubber Emissions Hose and made it longer an ran it along the Fender Well.
That way I am not likely to Crack it as I did with one of the Nipples when I did my first Oil Change.
Now the Hose is not as much in the way as it used to be.

I tried that on my '85 617 and got absolutely nowhere. It didn't soften a bit. I ended up just cutting off the hard plastic hose and using 3/8" power steering hose. A lot cleaner and easier, and the pliable hose makes routing the line easier and less likely to break off a nipple on the check valve or dislodge a vacuum line.

Well damn I'm sure glad I asked, that would have been a complete waste of time.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm gonna go with a soft hose end to end.

Be careful cutting the plastic check valve as it's easy to break off the nipples and gouge the barbs. I recommend a new blade in a box cutter and cut little slivers of the plastic off until it comes free.

Thanks, I was wondering about that, the end at the vac pump was a pain to get off.

I'll be nice and gentle.
