Drivers log car date 356347.4 transmission...

Ok get this.

I have been dealing with this transmission issue in the 82 300td where it does not shift unless you shift to neutral then back into gear at which point the car will up shift to the next gear. Kind of like a manual and we have all gotten use to driving it that way for the last few months. The down shift works find.

Anyways. Out of the blue the trans is now shifting fine. Like it should.

Wth...

Now I have no clue what I should be looking for.

My only guess at this point is that there is crap in the trans after almost 360k that pugged up something and that something has unplugged....

The tranny in my 1979 280CE used to not upshift when the fluid was not warmed up good. It did this for 7 years probably, we all got used to letting the 280 idle and warm up a bit before taking off, if not it would absolutely refuse to shift. It was very annoying.

Dumped in 3/4 quart of trans-x and the problem is completely gone, she shifts gears no matter how cold it is, knock on wood.

BEFORE you drain your fluid, you can add in some trans-x and let it cycle around for a few hundred miles... then drain pan and converter, and change the filter.
after you've put in the new filter, just the best Dextron III fluid you can find is all the transmission needs...
