Where's the fuse, and what's the extra pin for?

I've got my 83 wagon, giving me fits starting, bad glow plug controller.
I've been bypassing it for a few weeks, and today my GF couldn't start it. so I got out a controller from my 93 300D, same number of plugs, similar connection... however, the controller has no fuse? and the control harness has an extra pin.

1. where is the fuse on the 93?
2. what's the extra pin for on the controller?

the controller works fine, just curious what the differences are.

No fuse on the later 124s. It is more like a circuit breaker and resets automatically.
I can't answer question #2.
Perhaps it has to do with after-glow.

An extra pin where? Does it have to do with the 93 having 6 cylinders and thus 6 glow plugs versus the 617s having only 5?

the later GP controller had circuit breaker thing built in, and also afterglow, thats most probably what that pin is for.

'93 has the OM602 which has 5 cylinders.

only 86/87/95 have 6cylinders in the 124...

the extra pin is in the harness that goes to the keyswitch... not the harness to the glow plugs themselves.

my 83 has only 4 pins, the 93 has 5...

yes it does! thanks,
it goes to the "preglow temp sender"
and the 83 does not have that, so no harm done not hooking it up! or, I could add a sensor to the car and wire it to the pin, and the relay would operate different amounts of time based on the temp outside...
