Sixto has a point . . . metal wear and corrosion in the key switch could cause poor contact. That switch is not very expensive, less than $50, IIRC.

I should note that my blower motor was chirping today before all this started happening, right after I started the car and the AC in fact. It went away quickly and I didn't think anything of it, until mention of a shorting blower motor.

and what to do if the tacho signal is only 1.9V square measure behind the Cockpit rpm plug under load as well as on the dianoses connector. same car 1995 E300TD non AC BR Bob |

The manual tells that you should be seeing about 3 volts at idle speed - 1.9 is a bit low, have you tried cleaning out the sensor - its on the transmission bellhousing.
btw is your tach inoperative?
