W115 Caliper Bolt Retainer Problem
After several years of waiting I have my 240D /3.0 back in my garage but not after driving it home from the DAS shipping depot and noticing that I had no brake pressure close to home because the right front caliper was dragging ever so slightly and causing it to overheat and smoke! I let it cool and then drove it home the rest of the way.
After reaching home, I jacked the car up and the calipers were stuck and was able to free both inner and outer pistons but cannot push them back in no matter what I do. I think they're crusty and up for retirement so I am trying to remove them to replace them. I can remove the upper bolt but the lower bolt has some sort of anti-spin retainer on it? It is somewhat obscured by the grime which I tried to scrape away as much as possible but. Is there a proper way of removing that so I can remove the lower 19mm bolt without tearing the bolt head up and stripping it? |

Pry/bend the tab out of the way.
Looks like that lower ball joint is ready for retirement as well. And the brake hose seems to be lacking a grommet where it passes thru the support bracket.

Yes take a flat screw driver and bend it back. Did you get the 6.9 home also?
Glad you get to your car now every day, instead of once a year. Now for fun of repairing things you haven't seen yet! .

Sounds reasonable enough but I wasn't 100% sure because it's tricky to try getting leverage in that cramped space.
Yes I did get the 6.9 back as well. I did miss the copious amounts of torque of that motor! |
