1992 Mercedes 300D shuddering on idle occasionally and in high climbs lacks power

Hello, I just bought a 1992 Mercedes 300D 2.5 Turbo a couple of months back. When I start the car and drive it there are no problems, however, after about 30 minutes of driving, when I come to a stop light, the car starts shuddering and it keeps getting worse, but at some stop lights there is no shuddering at all. I don't understand what the problem is!

I had recently embarked on a 13 hour long journey in which I had to drive through the mountains of BC and had no problems with the Benz. However, the car started lacking power and was "surging" at certain climbs in high speeds of 110KMs/hr and then after also on straight roads in the last couple of hours of the journey! (?) I am completely baffled and even my genius mechanic could not figure it out, which is rare!!

I had a diesel purge done on the vehicle, and my mechanic said the injectors are not the problem, is it the computer or something wierd like that? No lights ever came on in the dash except for a low windshield washer fluid light... and also my cruise control stopped working after the trip back, maybe it is a fuse... Any help would be much appreciated

Also is there a CD ROM repair manual available on this car? If so, where may I find one?

Cassius,

This question belongs in the Diesel section of the board, hopefully one of the moderators will move it over there.

Post over at the Diesel board but the first thing I do when I lose power is replace my inline and primary diesel filters.

After the diesel purge did you put new fuel filters on? If you did not, that is the first thing I would try.

Hello

No I did not put any new fuel filters, I will try that. Hopefully my problem may be eradicated. And sorry about posting my thread in the wrong place. I am new here and did not know Thanks for the advise, but please keep them coming

Read up on checking the automatic transmissions fluid level. You should check it anyways anytime any form of surging is felt. In your case it is not the issue I suspect. Maybe you have checked it properly already?

There is a tendancy not to check much of anything very often since self serve gas came into play many years ago.

Not all people became neglectful of course. For the younger members information there was a time when far more attention was paid to fluid levels. I am guilty myself by the way of backing off. Just not quite as guilty..

On the cruise control, by all means check the fuse, but in all likelihood it is a bad amp. Forum member jamesdean rebuilds them for $50.

I am fusturated with the cruise control on my 1992 300D 2.5 turbo. The cruise worked fine on my long 15 hr drive and the way back, but then it started creating problems. When I looked under the hood, the linkager was loose and the ball/socket joint would not hold together, so my mechanic replaced the linkage with another one. Then, as the problem persisted after that (??) my mechanic then replaced the actuator, which turned out to not be the problem, and some sort of an amp or switch behind the dash he replaced as well to be on the safe side. The last thing I can think of is the computer under the driver's side dash by the knee. Here are the current symptoms: The car's cruise control stick works (after all of these replacements),it accelerates but the cruise does not set, it holds for about 3-5 seconds and then decelerates and does not hold the cruise. The fuse is fine, the brake lights all work....is it the computer under the dash? Please help) I am confused.
