odometer is malfunctioning ?

Hello all , sometimes my odometer sticks , I have over 224,000 mi. on it now . The speedometer always works, When I push the trip knob in, it will work for a while then just stop in place but the speed odometer will work. Maybe someone has exp. with this? Could it be dust or dirt in it? or maybe the little gears are worn ?or out of sync? The one that is the tenths always would stop, say at 9 every revoloution. Then I would push the trip Knob in a couple of times it would sometimes start working again for say 50 miles or so. Thanks for any replies. By the way I did my valve adj. last week and every valve was tight. I sure did notice the motor running stronger now . I found it easy to turn over with 27 MM socket. Thanks again.

If you do a search under "odometer" I think you'll find a couple of helpful posts. My 300D-T does the exact same thing. In fact, it always stops on 9/10's once the cabin has warmed up. Cold weather finds it working well. I printed out two posts on how to dis-assemble and fix. Let me know if you don't find the threads.

By the way, the mercedes odometer does not like to be reset (trip) while moving; this can jam it which causes other damage. If you can remove your odometer to expose the gearing, you will notice that there is a shaft connected to a plastic gear that controls the trip odometer and main odometer. After time and wear that gear will spin on the shaft when it's not susposed to (no traction). I carefully applied crazy-glue onto the shaft where it meets the gear (carefully, so I don't glue anything else together) and immediately rotated the gear on the shaft (to facilitate the glue to flow between them) and let it harden. Replaced. This solved the problem. Just remember to NEVER reset the trip odometer while moving.

If you need more specifics I'd be happy to tell you.
