How to check the vacuum system on a '95 E300D

Good day all.

My question may have been posted before, but after clicking away for hours, I have not come across the info I'm looking for.

My center- and foot-well vents do not work anymore, I would like to check out the vacuum system. Does anyone have a detailed diagram for the vacuum system for my 1995 E300D?

Thanks,

the main HVAC vacuum feed is the green line behind the brake booster on a yellow vacuum funnel, it should also have a red line going downwards which leads to a vacuum tank in the right fender, mine was broken half way so I plugged this line till I removed the cowling to fix my blower motor and joined the broken vacuum line.

anyway - the vacuum manifold inside the dashboard is located right about besides the centre vents to the passenger side, you would need to remove the passenger airbag to get to it - which would require removal of the black underpanel first then the airbag it will expose the manifold. you can then test the individual vacuum ports with a hand held mityvac easily. If any of the pods are leaking, you are looking at tearing apart the dash to replace them.

Zulfi is right on. Taking out the airbag is not too bad on the 124. On my car, I had the airbag out to change the HVAC aspirator fan, and I noticed that two vac hoses were disconnected from the vacuum manifold (which I found quite surprising) and when I reconnected them my center vents started working again. I had thought my center vents were not operating due to shot pods, which seems to be pretty common as the cars age. Was not looking forward to dash removal, etc. With the airbag out you can see a couple of the pods, but I don't know if they are changeable or not, as I didn't try.

Rgds,
