Drive with missing hose?

Alright guys. I'm in a bit of trouble here with the missus (read: Mrs.) She's got an ac line leaking pretty badly (= no ac), it's ~100 degrees around here for awhile and she's in her first trimester. I'm to blame because I bought the car and I have caused summer to happen.

I'm taking the leaking hose off tonight and will drop it by the local hydraulic shop tomorrow. The problem is that she needs to drive the car (no there isn't another transportation option) almost everyday this week.

If I remove the two way hose from the compressor to the evaporator, should I/could I somehow protect the rest of the system from flying crap in the air?

I plan on disconnecting the compressor from any chances of it powering on while she's driving (I know she'll push the button no matter what I tell her). But what else can I do to ensure the system isn't going to get buggered up while the hose is missing?

Just wait until you cause winter to happen and the car wont start or the heater works, and she is in her last Tri-mester. It`s down hill from here.

I would just wrap some doubled over tin foil over the ends and wrap Duct tape over it to seal it well until you can repair it.

Oh, been there done that. Our last one was born between the two snowpocalypses a few years back. At the time we had my DD (84 300D) with balding tires and the 2001 VW 4Motion Passat wagon. Her water broke at 2am, it was 12 degrees outside and I ran out to start the fully filled Passat to warm it up and I'm greeted with no heat and EVERY BLEEPING WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH going off.

...yes, our son was taken to and from the hospital in a 27 year old Benz with balding tires on icy roads. But the heat did work.

Get her some orange creamsicles and maybe some pickles would go good with that. By the time ours was born I had to go to the other side of the city to get the creamsicles cause she ate all the ones on the east side of the city.
