First Batch of Bio-Diesel

No, I didn't make it myself. I bought it at Superior Oil Co. in Phoenix. What a difference! My car runs great on the stuff. Smells nice also. I put a full tank of 100% BD. I know the methanol can eat up all of the rubber. When I get to half a tank I'll put dino diesel in for a 50/50 blend. Why the hell isn't it available everywhere? Some day I will make my own. andy

Commercial bio has almost no methanol content. Since this is the most expensive part of making the stuff they have ways to get all of the left over methanol out of the end product. I figure it just gives the home made stuff I make a little more kick so I don't wash my fuel to remove it. I replaced all the rubber when I started making it and have never had a problem with them getting soft. I used the "real" Mercedes fuel line with the stars because it is suppose to be tougher than regular fuel line but I wonder.

I also buy biodiesel from Superior Oil Co. in Phoenix. I fill several 5 gal. containers and add 4 gal. of bio with each fillup in my '85 300D. This amount provides the lubricity, cleaning effect and anti algae properties without the expense of full 100% bio. With this amount I have had no problems at all with fuel lines leaking. With the sulfur being removed from diesel, I like having my fuel pump luricated in this manner. I hope this fuel becomes more available as time goes on.

Don,
The last time I bought, the price was $2.11 a gal. That's another reason why I do not use 100% bio. Superior trucks in the fuel from back in the midwest somwhere I think. That adds to the cost, but it is very good fuel. I use it in my Ford diesel pickup as well. Both vehicles run well on the B20 mixture. You can reap the benefits of bio with as little as a1% mix.

Don, I paid about the same as Curston. When I looked at my receipt, I saw that the fuel itself was $1.68 gal. the rest being tax. I'd like to think that there would be some sort of tax break for using the stuff. Might get a lot more people buying it. After this first tankful of 100%, I'll use a 20% mix. andy

Hey;

Thanks for the quick response. Sounds expensive but also beneficial.
Appreciate it.

New bio diesel plant in the works for South Dakota

Heard on the news the other day that a new bio diesel plant is in the works for the Eastern part of South Dakota. The bummer of it is that I am moving to Virginia on Monday! At least somebody else can benifet...
I am following the bio diesel threads closely, they are very interesting.
