Why do you want to do this? Are you trying to save weight so you can go racing or something?

Yes you can remove the compressor, the bracket, the lines, the dryer, the condenser without affecting the engine or the heat. If you cover the connections to the txv, replacement will be simple. Just flush the evaporator and replace what was removed
+1 on the why part though.

Yeah, drive 55-60mph on the freeway.

You are not losing power, nor fuel economy with the A/C system not running.

I think the only way to get 45 mpg in a w123 is by posting it in an ad on craigslist if you catch my drift

You will have to remove a lot more than the a/c to come anywhere CLOSE to 45MPG. You would probably have to cut the vehicle weight in HALF.

Best of luck with it and keep us posted.

You must NOT live in Texas, then. It is 110F outside right now and about 150-160F in the car sitting in the parking lot.

You might as well forget about 45MPG in an older Benz. If you want that kind of MPG, you need to be running WVO or WMO.

I finally deleted my AC too, after alot of time. effor and money trying to make it work right. I am in a cooler climate so i don't mind so much (although been pretty hot lately!)

You will save some weight, but not sure how much it will really matter. Car will ride higher as you remove weight. I have a 4spd swap and AC delete and car sits at stock height with 1.5 coil removed.

For MPG's I'd try 2:88, water inj, lower ride height and perfect tune/time,fresh nozzles, tight front end/good alignment, MBC and of course manual trans.

My car gets great mileage on flat ground, but hills make all the difference with these tanks.

for that kind of mpg's you will need to visit hypermilers.com or similar to glean aero tricks, and the car will NOT be fun to drive when you are done.
25 is attainable, 28 is within reach with conservation... 30plus have been claimed, but not heavily matched...

Pump up the tires to the max pressure it has printed on the side wall.

Installing a 4-spd will pump you up 3mpg. also install a 2:47 Diff out of a W126.

Always drive down hill.

well me and my dad took a trip that was about two hours and we drove an average of 75 on the interstate and we refilled once we got to our destination and it came out to 32.97 mpgs... that's new injectors, tires are perfect and balanced, valves rechecked, alignement is dead on, and farm diesel...lol. But i was wondering if maybe water/ methanol injection, and a intercooler would help out...i still need to get a boost gauge mounted in my car and get the boost checked.

Shoot, I'd be all smiles if I saw even 30MPG going 75MPH.

Does anyone know if they make double-overdrive units for the cars or is that a heavy-trucks only thing? Is the 4spd auto DD or OD?
