CV boot cone tool

Have not been on for a while, so, i am looking for a CV boot cone tool source. checked out all my local auto part suppliers and no luck, and checked out online with some luck. however, most of the stuff online was out of the country and shipping was expensive and about a month out. i also checked out "Astoria" but they have yet to respond to my in query. any help would be appreciated. thanx in advance!

Toolrage the Astro Pneumatic Boot Installer cone

CV Boot Installer Astro Pneumatic part AST-7831
I think Tooltopia may also sell them.

If you buy the Cone you need to sand or scrape out the inside Diameter for it to fit over the Cans on the Axle also you need to drill a 1/8" hole in the tip to let Air in and out or it is hard to remove fromt the Axle.

If you use the Cone by itself it workes OK but when I tried to use the Big Tongs that came with it I ripped a Boot.

Another Member used a Cone he got from the Astoria Flexx Boot Company but said that if you look at their website it does not show up. You need to either call or Email them and ask for the availability, Cost and shipping cost.

No one I know of has tried this: Dorman makes a 614-050 Uni-Fit "On-The-Car" installation Tool Kit that has a 4" Mounting Cone T, a 5" Mounting Cone, Plastic Tongs, Band Clamp Tool for the Dorman type Clamps, Cutting Knife, Lubricatin Spray in a Plastic Tool box with a Lifetime Warranty.

Oreilly Auto Parts sells the above kit for $80 and said it qualifys for free shipping. But, no one has tried it so it is a gamble as to the fitment of the Cones.

This is my advice which you may or may not like, and may or may not follow: send the axles to CVJ and get them rebooted properly.

The Atro Pneumatic Cone several years ago was with the shipping totaled $27 and the Boot Band Tool was about $9.
I used Dorman Boots and bought 12 Boots that made them less than $8 each and I ripped 2 experimenting.
At AutoZone the individual Boot kits are $16 each or so. But, if you are using the grease as I did you are going to need more then the little 3 oz packet that comes each the kit.

I have a feeling my cost was way less than shipping 2 Axles Back and forth to CVJ and paying them to do it. And, I would not have had the Fun/Struggle of doing it Myself.

So far the results have been entirely adequat.

I have a similar need as the OP and I have contacted CVJ and their prices are reasonable. But I did notice they charge more to rebuild my own axles, as opposed to them selling someone else's axles and me sending mine in afterwards. Do you think it is worth it to pay more to have my own axles rebuilt or just take the luck of the draw with whatever they send me. While I love my car, I have no great affinity for each and every greasy part. Thanks.

Do your axles really need to be rebuilt? Mine were fine, they just needed to be rebooted. I swapped them side to side on the reinstall. They charged me $100 each.
