1981 300d kickdown switch
Guys I've been experiencing some oddness with shifts... 1 to 2 comes too soon. 2 to 3 a little too late. Then 3 to 4 too soon. With flaring when the car warms up. I can let off the accelerator as it shifts to prevent the flare.
I've noticed that my kickdown switch no longer works. Any chance it's related and how could I confirm or deny? I checked pressure at the modulator. It was 60 at idle which I lowered to 40 and it seems like the shifts have actually become even weaker despite 40 being more so the correct pressure. |

zippy,
There are some really good posts on here about this subject. The trans in the 80 81 years were controlled by vacuum they can be very tricky you have to read up on this. The kickdown is nnothing more than a solonoid switch that pulls in when you energize it by flooring the throttle.Try pulling the vac line to the modulator and you should have some hard shifting but dont leave it that way. You can start your troubleshooting with that Im sure there are those who know more than I about this but this is my past experience with one of these trans. More vac softer shift less vac harder shift . good luck |
