Exclamation Looking at a 1970 220D - 53K Orig Miles - Opinions?

I just lost my 79 300D to a cracked head, due to overheating...and I didn't want to pay the $3K to fix (rust and other issues didn't make it seem like a good choice).

I have a lead on a 1970 200D, manual transmission, 53K original miles that has been kept in storage by a collector for the last 10 years. It was driven a times a year. Supposedly everything is mint, in and out. Only think that doesn't work is the AC. List is $5K, but a friend of the owner thinks I could get it for $4K.

Looking for opinions from any 220 owners, or opinions on that model in general. I am a novice mechanic, can perform all basic tasks but nothing over complex (no lift, and not a huge supply of tools).

Is this worth buying?

Thanks,
Marty

Nah, buy someone's crappy project for $1,000 and have $6000 in it before long with things that still need to be fixed.

Where is it? I'll take a trailer with cash.

Rust is the real weakness on those cars. Otherwise they are very high quality. Seat pads tend to deteriorate too. Minor issue though. foru grand for a nice rust free car with everything pretty nice would be a fair price probably....maybe five. If the ac works too.

For me it would have to be a stick.

Sounds like a good deal. I owned one and enjoyed it. Easy to work on. Believe AC was a dealer add on with good access for repair.

great cars, but exceedingly slow. Worth considering with open eyes going in IMO.

geared great though for low speeds, plucky till about 55, after that, you have to wind it out to get anywhere on the highway.
