Well Charmalu this is a legitimate hook up and it is a Mercedes heater hose. In looking for it this morning, I see that there is a short one for between the the 4 and 5 cylinder. Probably cheaper also. I didn't find that last year when I was looking. And no. I didn't have any big clearance problem laying that hose in there, tho it is a bit crowded. Anyway, that can always be determined later. I made the mistake of putting that outlet into the back of the 617 head and it just won't work there and then it was difficult to get out and even more difficult to put the plug back in.

I'm interested in seeing a picture of this heater set up if anyone has one handy.

Yeah. Jim did the swap over the last several years. The reason for the different hose location is that the 617 is so darn close to the firewall that it is easier to run the hose from the #2 cylinder hole rather than the back of the motor.
So...have we [and when I say 'we' I mean 'everybody else' lol] confirmed the correct part number? I'm going to order the hose once I have the right number. Could the hose in this image perhaps be the one in question? http://fatfranz.files.wordpress.com/2006/12/om617-0612b.jpg |
I guess you guys are talking about the outlets on the head as shown in this picture?
My non turbo OM617 has a connection between cylinders 4 and 5 as shown here http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...done-head1.jpg |
OK, took me a while searching for a picture, but this is the hose I was talking about. this guy cut it and added a piece for some reason. this is all one piece.

Charlie: yeah maybe that's it! I ran across that image as well while doing a search. If that's all it is, I might just adapt an existing piece of hose to fit like that one does.

Well the one I have comes off the casting plug hole between glow plugs #2 and 3, makes a 90 degree turn and runs straight back to the heater tube above the oil filter. I can't really read all the numbers well, but what I see is 123 832 12 94. Well I guess that is correct according to what I see when I Google the number. They have it listed as NOS, and that it was used on the 77/78 300D. Well it works good on my 83 converted 240D with the 85 617 Turbo. I think Mercedes stealer knicked me about $32.00, which is about a dollar an inch plus $2.00 for the turn.
