ALDA Loose
The ALDA on my pump has always been a little loose. Today I noticed a very slight oil leak from under the big nut where it goes into the top of the injection pump. I can't tell if this nut is part of the ALDA, or is for keeping things tight. Car is runnng fine, just need to know how to tighten this up to stop the leak. Don't want to force anything and no mention of this in the search.
On another note I ordered all the lower wear parts minus ball joints for the front suspension. (always something, but beats car payments) ![]() |

Me too!
Anyone have the answer to this question?
Today, I was under the hood, and the ALDA moved when I bumped it with my arm. Is the ALDA data supposed to tight on the injection pump? Can someone check to see if their ALDA is tight? |

The alda should be tight. You will have to tighten the nut under the alda. Be carefull to not turn the alda or you will break the plastc line or the vacuum switch in the IP.

My alda spins 1/2" left and right -- I understand this is not normal, but knowing that this has been happening, has something been damaged that I should know about?

?
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough -- the whole ALDA (the actual unit) moves the 1/2" - 3/4" left and right (the nuts on the bottom must not be tight enough) -- I know they need to be tight, but has there been any damage by the movement?
Thanks again, GD |

You'll see it marked on the pic. It looks like a square mushroom with a small nut on top... HTH, GD |

The ALDA should be tight, but it doesn't hurt anything if it isn't. You can fix that by holding the ALDA and tightening the large hex nut beneath it.
As to the "leaks", that depends if it's coming from the IP itself (below the nut), or from the bottom/center of the ALDA. If it's the IP, well, you'll probably just have to live with it. If it's the ALDA, that means the shaft seal is leaking and allowing intake blowby to push through the plastic tube and leak small amounts of oil out the bottom of the ALDA. I had this on my car, and after replacing the ALDA shaft seal, the problem was cured. Photos are here (same ALDA is used on OM603 and OM617) : http://www.meimann.com/images/mercedes/OM603_injection/
