#1. Who are these guys? All of us.
#2. What is the age group? 16-75; I'm guessing on the 75 #3. What hobbies do they have? cars, trucks, guns, whiskey, hunting, fishing, touring, performing arts, food, etc. All the usually hobbies that any guy might have. #4. What are there interest and what are the things important to them? There interest (besides Mercedes) ranges across all spectrums. The one thing that differiates us from the other guys is our unique interest in certain Mercedes things. Why are these things important to us? Well, since you posted this on the Diesel Forum and not in the Open Discussion, I'm guessing you really meant the title of this thread to be: How would you define the "diesel" Mercedes enthusiast??? We all want reliable transportation and most don't want to spend a lot of money. We are a "cheap" bunch. We are willing though to spend hours upon hours to rebuild, redo, improve, fix, and repair a car worth less than $3,000. Some of us could definitely be classified as "environmentally conscious" in that we don't want to see these living beasts since to the crusher before their time.

A previous mailing list in which I participated had some regional get-togethers and some members met informally otherwise.
If that group was any indicator, I'm going to suggest you'll find that we're all over the map in terms of age, educational background, career and other interests. I would say you will find we're all somewhat unconventional and probably less consumer-oriented than most. Some of us have come to the old Mercedes world through research on the technology, some came for the looks and style and stayed for the experience, some reach the end of the road with other makes and decide to try something completely different, and others just seem to trip and stumble into a diesel by accident....

#1. Who are these guys?
Well, we are all a bit crazy, nerdy, redneck, yet tastefully scrupulous. #2. What is the age group? Mercedes diesels are rated G for all ages. My 3 yr old prefers riding in Frau. #3. What hobbies do they have? Fixing up junkers...mostly because affording new is near impossible and financially impractical. No other time for hobbies - always working on this Benz...hehe. Gotta run. Is that my vacuum pump calling me? #4. What are there interest and what are the things important to them? We are all historical preservationists. Who else would make 25+ year old cars their daily driver? We like taking various levels of basket case, and seeing them roll as well as ever. I am also restoring a 1929 Ford Town Sedan with dad.

in my neck of the woods, the guys and ladies that are into diesel MBs (including myself) are usually progressives, or hippies, or DIY kids.. sort of the opposite of a regular "car guy" which sometimes makes it hard for me to follow some of the things on this forum..
wide range of ages here other hobbies include gardening, composting, etc ![]()

#1. Who are these guys?
Well, they seem to be people who like to wrench on a car that is well engineered. Me, I fall into that group. I've worked on a few badly engineered cars in my time and don't want to repeat the mistake. #2. What is the age group? Somewhere between birth and death. Most tend to be out of their teens and into their practical years. #3. What hobbies do they have? Most I know are doityerselfers. #4. What are there interest and what are the things important to them? Mine are not paying car payments and riding around in a car that feels like sitting on a cloud. It's important to me that my car starts and gets me there - it always does.

It is a regional thing as far as the demo of a typical older Mercedes owner. It seems as though the majority of the W123 drivers I see are either older (50's-70's) or younger hipsters. I am neither.
