injection pump lubrication?
on my 84 190d there seems to be a drain and fill plug on the injection pump. does anyone know if this is to be drained and refilled or does the pump lubricate off the engine crankcase oil?
thanks hillbilly |

That's not a drain plug. It's an access port to insert a cam lock pin for pump removal, and also to insert an "RIV" tool to set start of delivery. The pump has a drain hole in the front where the engine oil returns to the crankcase. So relax, you have nothing to worry about...

Older diesels did, I believe
A friend of mine had a '69 220D which had a little plug in the side of the pump; every time he changed the oil in the motor, he would take out the plug and squirt motor oil into a port on the top of the pump until clean oil rather than diesel fuel came out of the plug hole. When did they change this?
