300 TD W123 turning signal relay location?

Well, im wondering if its a relay problem, but my turning signal doesnt work. I had replaced my steering box recently, and had the steering wheel off, but since corrected it.

the signal has been working intermittently, and sometimes for weeks without issue, however I think its finally bit the bullet. It hasnt been working for a while now. The signal lever disengages at the proper times when turngin, its just as if there is no power to it.

As it was intermittent I didnt think it would be a fuse, could it be a relay problem? and if so could anyone shed light on where its located?
thanks alot
Michael

Try playing with or cleaning the emergency flasher switch thats on the console. If drinks get spilled on the swich,it gets gummed up and your turn signals wont work.

Your 85 300TD has the turn signal relay or flasher unit is under the the wood shifter plate.

Remove the ash tray, remove the 2 Phillip screws and then remove the Ash Tray frame. there will be the wiring harness on the left side to unplug.

Then slide the shifter plate to the rear, so the pin at the rear of it ( where in folds down into the change catch all tray) moves far enough so you can lift it up. don`t want to break off the plastic pin.

You may have to remove the plugs for the various switches so you can lift off the shifter plate. you will see the black flasher unit forward of the shifter.

The older W123`s like m y 80 240D had the flasher unit in the large red switch to the rear of the shifter. It is the flasher as well as the 4 way emergency flasher.

That did it! How simple, thanks both of you for the tips. Ive definately spilled tea on that switch before...Ill clean it up under there and see if that solves it for good.

Michael
