Skid Plate? 300D

One of the concerning aspects of my 300 D is that the oil sump is very close to the front of the car and hangs pretty low.

Where I live, I have about 5 miles of unimproved roads sometimes with deep ruts that the milk truck will make up the hill in front of our house in the winter. I don't really rally race my car but sometimes the buggy or truck ruts are so deep it is all one can do.

I have some steel that I am thinking of making a bolt in box under the pan.

Has any one here had one or made one. Any pics?

there is the OE skid plate... and IIRC the dealer has it for around 150.00
there are mounting holes on the subframe to mount one if you build your own.
I have an OE plate, and several plates from various suv's I'm planning on adapting...
someday...

Thanks I'll look. I have heard of some rally cars using plywood.
BTW I am glad that I am not the only one who thought of this/

Juergen our TD hero has the plate on his wagon I think. MB also had an option for a raised suspension to help with the problem.

Thanks for the link. I like the design on the rolled over Audi and may try and fabricate something like that.
