A good rear axle leak!
I had installed my cleaned fuel injectors and removed alda so I went the few miles out to a paved road to see what she would do. I thought the engine response was better so brought it home and parked it in the garage.
Later I went out to the shop and looked under the car to see oil dripping off of the rear axle pumpkin. Dang dang. I had a puddle 18" in diameter. I went to my computer file of the FSM and spent a lot of time looking at how to change a seal. I didn't have any internet capability where I was. I jacked the car up some and looked carefully at it again. I have no sense of smell so I asked my wife to catch a drop on her finger and tell me what fluid it was..... Diesel. I looked up and saw two rubber lines with one dripping. Whew. http://veloliner.com/mb/rearoilleak.JPG |
Hey Sil, had the same senario. My rear was all wet so I checked the diff oil level. Pulled the plug only to see oil follow it out. The lesser of two evils I'd say!!

One of the 2 Fule Lines coming in and out of the Bottom of the Fuel Tank is near there.
When you are done get something like Purple Power so you can was the Diesel Fuel off of the Boots; as it is bad for them. And, the Steel Fuel Lines that veer to the left are know to rust through. |
Thanks for the advice about cleaning the boots. I did wipe it off with a paper towel. Will try and wash it.
What was funny was that besides these two lines close together there was was a 3rd line that that looks like feed line. The feed is off set to the drivers side about a foot. In the engine compartment there appears to be be only two lines, a feed and return. I was not able to see what is going on in the fsm. |

The end of the vent line will be behind the L/R wheel, and slightly forward it. there is a bell shaped piece pointing towards the ground.

Looks to be a fuel leak to me too.
The vent line won't be leaking. |
See what you get when you hot dog it with those sweet injectors ...
Did the clamps come loose ? OR, is it the hose ? |
Yep the hose rotted out. All that I had with me was some clear vinyl tubing. I used it. Will get it replaced with something better later.

So, your differential is leaking diesel????:book:
Better consult the manual...:D |
Diesel in the differential? I have not done that.
Once upon a time I was rebuilding some dirt bike forks. I got to the point of putting in new oil and realized I only had pretty thick stuff, not suitable for forks. I didn't even have any ATF. It was saturday afternoon with nothing open within 40 miles. I mixed a bit of diesel with the motor oil I had at hand. Problem solved. :) One of these days I will drain out the concoction and put in the right stuff. Quote:
