1991 602 Cylinder Head

Please advise as to weather I should replace a cracked head with a Mercedes OE cylinder head or a remanufactured cylinder head ?

Any input appreciated

Boils down to what you want to pay. Remfg part would be generally a little cheaper, a OE head will run more. Either is good as long as the Remfg head is done by someone who knows what they are doing, a reputable company like Metric Motors I believe they are called. do what you can afford.

The reman one could be okay if it comes from someone reputable. But a reman could just as easily be a crack repaired head. A warrantee is great if it includes labor, which it likely wont. Generally their warrantee only extends to replacement.

A new head from MB would be fully warranted, labor included, "if" the dealer installed it. Anyone else and its a maybe. But that would likely be very $$$$$

Me, I would go for a good used one. A good used head thats never had any work can be a very good choice and is the least expensive route.

the head on my 93 with a broken timing chain is available... but I have zero info on it.
if I pull it, and take it in to have it crack tested and the valves/guides/seals done you want it?
I cannot imagine the price from MB for a NEW head... you'd then have to swap in your hardware I bet... I doubt it would come loaded from MB...
