300d oil separator question!!!!!!!!
Looking to buy a very nice looking 82 300d turbo. Usual problem with the rubber that locks down the air cleaner. The oil return pipe that sticks out the bottom of the air filter had bounced out of the pipe that goes down to the oil pan. Probably out for a while as oil had leaked on the side of the block and such.
My question is this--What is the normal amount of oil that should be dripping out of the oil separator and down this tube. A few drops a day?? A lot?? A little?? Engine has 220K on it. Obviously with this pipe assembly headed down to the oil pan there is supposed to be SOME amount of oil dripping back down. Sure need a quick answer!!! Email me direct so I won't miss out. bhatcher@mindspring.com |

Based on the mileage, I'm going to say that it should be a lot of drops a day. How much oil drips down to the pan should be a direct funtion of how much blow by the engine has. My car has a lot of blow by, so the oil separator, air cleaner assembly is always coated with oil.
