TRANSMISSION FLUID CAPACITY

1997 E300 NON TURBO, can anyone tell me what the transmission fluid capacity is for this vehicle. I am starting from scratch as the transmission pan has been off for some time and the torque converter has been drained and the transmission lines have been disconnected and drained.

I am using the correct fluid, I do not have the the dipstick tool but am planning on getting it eventually. My indy mechanic /friend basically said why would a tool be necessary if a transmission is being filled from scratch and the dipstick not available ......The PETER RUSSEK manual says 6.3 litres, posts on other sites suggest from Mercedes data its 7.5 litres yet others say 8-9 litres.

I contacted MB of Gainesville today. The service department advised me they could not give me the information as I am not supposed to service the transmission. I became a little testy at which time they agreed to give me the information stating it was 11-12 quarts. When I advised them that was impossible they rechecked and stated 11-12 quarts.....Its quite obvious their intention was for me to damage my transmission. I contacted MBUSA customer service and advised them what had happened, they advised they could not be responsible for what was told to me by a dealer...The bottom line I was advised my 722.6 takes 7.5 litres when totally drained......

Including Draining the Torque Converter ?

???

Cardinal Rule:

If you call a dealer and ask a "Service Question" ...You'll speak to a
"Service Advisor" WHOSE sole function is to SELL YOU SOMETHING !

ALL Service Questions should be directed to the "Shop Foreman"
(Excepting, 9 out of 10 times THEY don't take Calls.)

So, Ask for the Service Director (AND get him to state his full name)
Then ask your Question...
