Cracked windshield - '87 300TDT

Anyone have any advice in having my windshield replaced on my '87 300TDT?

Any recommended locations in the Northern, VA area?

Thanks,

-John

Safelite usually does a good job. Just request a new window made my Pilkington Glass if possible vs. other brands.

buy the cheap Chinese one on interweb and install yourself

How bad is the crack? If it is not annoying yet, just drill the end of the crack with a 1/8 or so bit and it won't grow.

I hadn't thought of buying one and doing the install myself. Was that a joke or is that something a tree-shade mechanic can do?

Windshield on an '87 is glued in....not something I'd ever want to tackle. And using chinese glass, no thanks. If a rock flies up and hits the window, I'd rather the glass stop it than it hit my face. I don't use chinese anything on my cars.

Check to see if your insurance covers the windshield without any deductible. I recall my once or twice doing that, but it was years ago.

The previous owner of my TD used a local glass installer, but twice rejected chinese made windshields because they deflected the light and deformed the view out the front. Finally, on the third attempt, they used non-chinese glass, and it didn't deform the image. Not sure what the final brand was. Good luck.

+1 on Pilkington. I used a local shop in SC.

Our SC laws are that if you have comprehensive it is zero cost and zero increase in rates for windshield replacement.
