300SD My Rear Defrost Black tall relay is removed, not sure why ??

I have had this car about 5 years and where I live we don't get allot of ice.

Recently when I was working in the fuse box I notice one tall black relay tucked "stored" in the area below the flat where the fuses go. ie down where all the wires are.

Can anybody tell me why this may have been remove by a previous owner and if you have any input on what to check before installing this relay may be beneficial.

All I know about this relay is, is it now out, it is supposed to be a 30 min on timer that shut off automatically.

Is this a prone trouble area that I could just say Leave the relay not in service and not put it in service.

Like I said after 5 years I just noticed it is not installed.

Steve

Thanks VS Tech,

I popped open the relay by removing the cover. All looks good. I too was worrked about current draw.

With key on I can feel the relay close and open.

With key off no action of reay as felt by hand.

So I think no current draw with key off.

At night I can see internal swith light come on when rocked on. When rocked off the internal button light extinguishes.

So all seems OK so far.

I will leave relay for a bit

I will leave relay installed for a bit and test the 30 Min auto off function next.

I'm assuming, but I don't know since this relay has been pulled by a previous owner, but Can I expect the internal button on lite to go off after this 30 minuted dealy ?? or will this internal ON lite stay on after it has auto-turned out and off after this 30 minute delay??

Thanks

Yes. I am not sure about the 30 minutes time frame. It may be less (seems more like 20 on my w123, anyway, but I never checked it).

It may have been removed because they can sometimes stick in the on position. This happens from time to time on my car.

Who knows why POs do what they do.

If you need a relay, let me know the part number. I have a bunch of relays I pulled at the junk yard.
