How hard is it to replace a starter on a 84 190d 2.2
The 617 s Ive done 6 or more ,just never had to mess with these yrs.Extensions used and is it a allen bolt ?

Its not too bad. You'll have to remove the whole air cleaner housing, and undo the hoses to the power steering box, then you will need an angled head wrench to reach up in the tunnel to get the top bolt loose 1/3 turn at a time, bottom bolt is easy. Overall.....easier than on a 617 in my opinion. Took me about 45 mins never having done one before.

It sounds like the 2.5 motor has the same starter from what Ive researched ,it will be good experience to rip up a junkyard car to pull the starter and test it after removal ,just repeat the same removal .Half a day and a subway sandwich in between breaks should get it back on the road .

Starter should be the same, if not more powerful. I used the starter from a 190e gasser on mine for a while, it made it 2 months.
Diesel starter has been great since...
