Diesel Cheaper than Gasoline !!!

Almost overnight gasolene prices have shot up in my area, while diesel has gone up about two cents/gallon. Diesel fuel is now cheaper at many places (locally) than all grades of gasolene.

Benefits of a warm winter?

BWatson 03-15-2002 11:46 AM

Los Angeles Ca. My last fill up was at $1.33/gal at the cheap chevron station by the freeway. They are always the cheapest in town by about 10 to 15 cents. It is $1.49/gal at Mobil. I've noticed that it is usually close to the price of super unleaded around here.

The Warden 03-15-2002 11:49 AM

At a mom & pop store here in Redwood CIty (San Francisco area), diesel's $1.43 a gallon and 87 g@$ is the same price.

Most other places, diesel's more like $1.45 to $1.49 a gallon, with 87 being a bit above that mark...

No complaints here...except for my two Fords "only" getting 15mpg...

lrg 03-15-2002 12:16 PM

San Francisco (City) $1.59 diesel. $1.49 reg unleaded (Chevron). In ten years I don't think I've ever seen diesel cheaper than reg unleaded, except maybe at some Central Valey truckstop.

You guys don't know when your well off!!

London,United Kingdom over $4 US a gallon thats roughly what we pay.I love driving my Merc so much that I try not to look how much a gallon costs me now, so this price might be a little low 'cos I haven't compared prices for awhile.Bear

Snowman 03-15-2002 02:16 PM

I'll throw in my diesel price for Chicago, IL.
Last I checked it was 1.49 but it could be more now. Anyway it was as expensive as premium gas in my area.

Trelinski 03-15-2002 02:29 PM

Lately I've been glancing at diesel prices, and it it a good 15% cheaper then gasoline in the Toronto area, and has been like this since I started paying attention to it two weeks ago.

Regular 87 octane: 70c /litre
Diesel : 56c /litre

Gary F. 03-15-2002 03:35 PM

In my area, Texas Hill Country, unleaded regular is $1.16.9, diesel at local truck stop is $1.17.9. Most places are higher.

Same here....

Diesel now cheaper than gas as of this week.

Diesel is $1.20 (truck stop 11 miles away from me)
Gas i paid was cheapest i could find today......$1.29

This is from columbus, ohio.

Robert W. Roe 03-15-2002 07:07 PM

Diesel is about $1.30 a gallon, with unleaded 87 around $1.15, premium is about $1.34. Diesel in this area of eastern PA has typically been somewhere between unleaded plus and premium gas. Only once, for a couple weeks maybe two years ago, was diesel cheaper than regular unleaded.

Ok guys, hold on to something

Current fuelprices in Sweden:

Diesel 8.24 Skr/litre = 3.16 USD/gallon
Gasoline 8.52 Skr/litre = 3.27 USD/gallon

To top it off we dieselcar owners pay the gascar taxes times 5.
Mine is currently 780 USD/year

Try that on for size!!

Up here in the frozen north (Canada), diesel has been 10-12 cents cheaper PER LITRE for a long time - before that even cheaper. Mind you, our fuel prices are still way more than south of the border.

Greetings All,

Diesel today was $1.24 while 87 octane gas was $1.29 I can still find diesel for $1.19 at small Mom & Pop stop, but rather use Philip's 66 high traffic pumps for a little more money. Does anyone know where the prices might settle? Sounds like another go-around to me, (political B.S.)

Just paid $1.399/gal. for diesel at Mobil station on Lee Rd. in Winter Park, FL... not very happy since the last I bought there 2 weeks ago was $1.31!!! When does all this "lowering of price" get to Orlando?

mikemover 03-24-2002 11:50 PM

The two cheapest places I've found here in Atlanta (that I still trust to have good fuel, anyway) were charging $1.09 last week, $1.19 this week. About a month ago it was $0.98. I hope it doesn't keep going up!

Robert W. Roe 03-25-2002 06:56 AM

It appears that diesel has been holding steady here while gas has risen a good 15-18 cents or so. Diesel is cheaper than premium but usually more than plus. I just paid $1.399 for Sunoco "Premium Diesel" yesterday. Have seen regular diesel for $1.359, and that's without travelling miles to find a bargain.

gas prices jumped again today

Imagine that! It's thursday in the springtime again, seems like an annual occurrence. This is the third spring in a row where gas prices have started to drive up in March. Based on the last two springs, the prices max out around Memorial Day weekend or just after and then spend the next 4-6 months slowly making their way back down.

Gas just jumped to $1.45 (regular unleaded) here at the cheapy stations, while Diesel is still in the mid to high $1.20's range.

loubapache 03-28-2002 03:23 PM

Kirk:

Recently I have been filling at the Crystal Flash station on Exit 91 on 131. $1.21 and the fuel is labled Premium. I like that fuel but I think all they added is some injector lubricant and cleaer to #2 fuel and called it Premium.

Where do you usually fill?

Alastair 03-28-2002 09:28 PM

Veggy/Diesel cost

Im in the UK, diesel here about $4.50 ish a US gallon, Me I use Veg oil, at about $2.00 a US gallon!

Prices just jumped overnight in West Michigan,

from:
$1.21/gal diesel // $1.39 unleaded

to:

$1.39/gal diesel // $1.54 unleaded

(can you say, "gouging"?)

r90skirk 03-29-2002 12:32 PM

Bo,
Lately the project I'm working on has me driving to Muskegon 2-3 times a week from GR so I fuel up at the Coopersville Amoco. If I don't get fuel there, then it's usually Meijer's diesel out of convenience (of which I've had no problems with).

One at a Pilot station in Indiana on I-80/94 for $1.22/gal (87 unleaded was $1.22) and another back at my favporite station in Western Mivhigan (Crystal Flash Exit 91 on 131)and it was $1.21 (87 unleaded was $1.45) about two hours ago.

Bethesda, Md. Exxon Tiger Mart = $1.89/gal. 1/2 mile away, still in Bethesda at the Citgo at Arlington Rd. and Bradley Blvd = 1.49/gal. Only about 6 miles further, in Aspen Hill Maryland, at the Citgo on Georgia Ave = 1.19/gal (this was a few weeks ago, though).

I love the .70/gal difference with a span of 6 miles or so. That kills me!

Robert W. Roe 04-07-2002 11:19 AM

After much observation here in eastern PA it looks like prices are about:
Unleaded 87 1.30-1.35
Unleaded 91 1.35-1.45
Unleaded 93 1.45-1.50
Diesel 1.40-1.45

jay123 04-07-2002 03:49 PM

Well, I'm in Tampa, Fl. Here are the prices of diesel since January:

Jan/02 - $1.13
Feb/02 - $1.19
March/02 - $1.29

It is increasing in price. However, it is cheaper than gas. It's been a long time since diesel has been cheaper than gas in my area.

Ken300D 04-13-2002 07:11 PM

Now the prices at my favorite diesel station - brand name is "Crown"

High-Energy Content Diesel - $1.239

Low-Energy Content Petrol - $1.329

My '87 300D gets 29.5 mpg on diesel. What does a 300E get? Does the 300E have to use premium fuel?

diesel price steady in ct

sw ct - citgo diesel still at 1.339/gal

regular gas 87 octane 1.399 and heading north...

loubapache 04-13-2002 09:23 PM

It depends on which station

It was $1.49/gal at the Crystal Flash I usually fill. Then later, I saw a Citgo station for $1.30/gal and I filled up there. Also saw a Shell station selling for $1.39/gal.

Thi sis in Western Michigan.

84300DT 05-05-2002 07:58 AM

uh oh diesel's going up!

sw CT - diesel now at 1.389/gal - and that's about the cheapest
locally -

on the other hand 87 octane gas at the same station 1.459 !

how about some NJ guys chiming in what's diesel going for around your state?

mplafleur 05-05-2002 10:11 AM

On my way up from Dallas to Michigan last weekend, I bought for:

$1.21 just east of Dallas, TX
$1.21 in West Memphis, AR
$1.17 in Indianapolis, IN

Here in Michigan, the cheapest is $1.31-$1.33

For a thousand miles and six states, fuel can be found for the high teens to the low 20's. Then when I get to Michigan, it's 15 cents higher. What gives?!!!
