W210 Cabin Air filter

Do all W210s have a cabin air filter, if so. where is the cheeky bugger, and how does one go abouts changing it?

There's 2, one for regular filtration and one for odors/carbon. The regular filter is accessed by removing the panel under the glove box, then removing the glove box itself. You'll need a stubby screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the box latch.

Not sure where the carbon filter is myself...

I've changed that carbon filter. IIRC, you've got to remove the kick panel that is above the passenger's feet.

Never easy is it.... ah well.. I dont think they've been changed in the life of the car... I talked with the P.O recently and asked and he said 'what cabin air filter' so I shall post pictures... I'm sure it's a nice science experiment by now

When I changed mine, it was totally clogged, and it was a miracle that any air at all was getting through the system. The carbon filter was not in that bad a shape. Guess the prior owner never engaged it.

This is what I oberved too. The charcoal filters I've change are relatively clean regardless of age. I don't think many people switch them on, ever.

The pair of cabin filters could be changed every 6 mos in many instances. They're doing the work.

cabin filters get a TON of stuff in them... I always wondered why cars didn't have filters in them to cut down on junk entering the a/c and cabin... then in the 90's they started using them.
they should be at LEAST as easy to change as some under the house filters...

in our old taho(e?) it was pretty simple, to the left of the passenger foot area there was a screw or something open the flap, slide out then in then done... but it looks like I'll have some fun taking out the glovebox on this car. I'll Try to make a pictoral adventure for future people. how does one engage said carbon filters anyhow? might be handy incase I ever drive someone around who's had a diet of beans and other Cruciferous veggies

Cabin filters

The cabin filters in my '96 E300 were black when I first changed them. I now change them annually. It's surprising how much dirt accumulates, ditto for the filters in the '95 E300 (W124). The photo shows new and old W210 filters from my first change.

The original carbon filter is still good. I changed it too but the new one was much cheaper and lighter and obviously didn't have as much carbon. It also didn't work well so I returned it and put the original back.

Jeremy

It's the button on the control panel that looks like a white arrow going through a filter.

these filters do store a lot, the ones (pair) on my W124 E300 are under the wiper and are a job to change out. But it really cleans up the air in the car, come pollen days, and I can actually breathe easier in my car than my house.
