Bilstein / 124.128 / O.E. OR HD ?

How much more "Stiff"/"Harsh" is the ride with HD's versus the Stuttgart O.E. 's ?

the OE from the dealership are known to be a bit different than the aftermarket bilstein flavors regarding damping.

The HD work well when pressed (loaded) and at high speed, The comforts are more softer, imagine the HD like a BMW - taut and controlled, the comforts are slightly wallowy.

I always feel like I'm speaking with a mouth full of marbles...

From the reaction I get, from asking questions incorrectly.
(P.O.V. IS everything)

Zulfiqar,

Thanks for your answer!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______

After Market Bilsteins:

B4 Series

The "Comfort" (or "Touring" if you're T.R.)
Bilstein claims EXACT Valving and compression/rebound as per MB O.E.specs.
for the N.A. market W124 chassis.

The H.D.
Which is a slightly Stiffer ride BUT still O.E. MB specs.
(Just not for the N.A. market cars.)

_________________________________________________________________

Bilstein also offers a B6 series for the W124 which is valved and tuned by
Bilstein in Deutschland for what THEY consider the W124 Chassis should ride as
on the Autobahn.

If you've Choked over the cost of Bilsteins in the past, the B6 version is about 30% more.

Logistical lead time on the B6 version is 4 weeks from Germany.
_________________________________________________________________

compression/rebound PSI (As per Bilstein)

B4 O.E. "Comforts" / "Touring" ----------1530 / 550 PSI
B4 HD ---------------------------------1840 / 720 PSI
B6 ------------------------------------1740 / 750 PSI

Bilstein describes the HD and the B6 HD as "Crisp"

What I should have asked was:

Non-Mercedes Bilsteins:

'Anybody have any experience with Comforts AND HD
AND WHAT'S the Difference ???
(AKA How much Stiffer are the HD s ?)

Thank You so Very Much.

looks to me like the answer to your question is 1840/1530 = 1.2

Your question was answered in post #2.

There was a recent discussion about Bilstein HD v. Comfort over at Benzworld dot org.

I got HD's for my last coupe, and they were rough.
When this one needs shocks, it will be getting comforts.
That's my 2 cents.
