A/C compressor replacement '85 300TD

Greetings. I need to replace the A/C compressor as it quit working last summer. It's probably the clutch (it has elec power all the way to the compressor), but nobody around here will mess with just replacing a clutch. I am OK with putting a new compressor/clutch in. I did find a mechanic who will swap the compressor and recharge however.

The system has already been converted to 134. There are no apparent or visible leaks in the system, as it still blows a little cool when engaged.

What other parts should be replaced along with the compressor? Thanks.

I'd suggest that you consider replacing the compressor with a new Sanden compressor. Rollguy has a nice bracket kit to make the replacement a bolt-in job.

You'll need to replace a couple of hoses and install a new dryer, but that's about it.

I'd also suggest going with something like one of the hydrocarbon refrigerants like Envirosafe so you can maintain the system yourself from now on.

I'm sure you'll find other opinions, but this will at least give you a chance to put more options on the table and be able to make an informed decision about what's right for you, rather than just taking the default path without knowing other options exist.

Good luck.
