Fuse Blows In Reverse

the 8 amp fuse that controls my tach, backup lights, some A/C controls, seat belt warning light blows as soon as the car is put in reverse. I unpluged the rear lights and still the same. If I jump it with a wire the backup lights work so not a short there. Once the car is in drive with a new fuse it is fine, never blows. I'm thinking bad neutral safety switch. Any ideas from the experts or someone who had and fixed the same thing?

Look at Neutral safety switch connection

Greetings,

I'd almost believe that perhaps the connector for the neutral safety switch has either water in it or the switch itself has gone bad. Pull the connector off the switch and try again and see if that doesn't get you on the troubleshooting trail. If that works, then pull the small cover off the connector to ensure there are no wires that have disconnected from their terminals. I'd also see if there isn't water or something that could be causing the short at the connector plug.

Charles

Guess I am going to have to get under her tomorrow. (talk about a loaded statement ) Water may be the problem. I had an oil cooler line blow last fall and used a pressure washer under the car before I started that repair. The tach didn't work and I had some strange problems with the seat belt buzzer going off. Problem went away after a day and I figured something got wet. That something may have been the saftey switch and now it is going to have to be replaced.
