Purchasing a new w123 Heater core/Heat exchanger

I can't find part number 0028352901 in aftermarket sales.

Genuine Mercedes w123 heater core is about $250 and appears to be still available.

Anybody know where I can pick up a cheaper aftermarket unit? I removed the HVAC assembly and with all that work, I sure hate to put back the old heater core. A new unit should be installed.

The heater in my '84 uro 300TD seeps enough coolant to hopelessly steam-up all the windows in cool, damp weather. It's been bypassed for now.
Two yeas ago, I got a price of $350 from a local aftermarket MB parts place for a new core.
Can someone here tell me if all W123 heater-cores are the same? My Euro TD has the manual 240D-style heat-AC, and I have a spare heater-AC unit from a '78 240D. Thanks.

Happy Motoring, Mark

I talked to the folks at the MB Classic Center.

The Heat Exchanger is no longer available.

It looks like I'll have to reinstall my old Heat Exchanger and hope for long life.

I would guess they would be the same. But you really need to look it up on the EPC with the VIN on hand.

Couldn't a radiator repair shop recore the old hater core? I know at one point they could but finding a shop is getting harder.

I thought about taking it to a local radiator shop to possibly add in aluminum tanks to replace the plastic tanks. But I am not sure how they would deal with the three pipes. Of course I just need to ask them.

???

Does it leak?
Does it look worn anywhere?
The one in my 1984 Light Ivory car looked in very good condition, so I reused it. I found a very good looking one in another 240D manual air box system. Let me know if you want a used one.

I haven't opened my spare 240D heater-AC box yet, so I have no idea if the heater-core is OK. Last night, I got to thinking - if a new core is NLA, and my used 240D core turns out to be no good, it might be possible to adapt something else.
I have a spare aluminum Chevy Cavalier heater core in excellent condition, that looks very similar to the W123 unit pictured here. However, the Chevy core has barbed fittings that would need to connect to the pipes with short hoses, and it's not a double-section core, so it would eliminate the separate left & right heater control.
Could someone give me the actual dimensions of a W123 heater core so I can get some idea if there's a chance the Chevy unit could be made to fit?
Thanks.

Happy Motoring, Mark

No it doesn't leak. The tanks actually look really good. I just don't think they have another 10-30 years of life in them. I don't plan on doing this that often and I'm keeping this car for a long time.

I'm going to a radiator shop to see what they can do for me.
