FUEL Filter Bolt Compatibility Question

The fuel filter bolt on my 95 E300D is one of the ones with a shut off valve...and mine leaks. So I'm just going to replace it with a regular bolt without the valve.

In the EPC, when I sear for the E300D, while it shows the bolt in the picture, it says "Item no. not valid for this model des." But when I check, for example, under my 92 300D, I get part no. 604 990 00 63 "Hollow Bolt" for the part.

I assume that this part will work fine in the 95....they use the same filters....but I thought I'd run it by you guys.

I've never worked on a 95... what's the bolt look like? what's it's purpose? is it like the bolt on 87's that goes through the center of the lid for the filter? 95's have a valve on them? if so, the 90 5 cylinder lid would not have that bolt, it's full length and integral to the lid itself...

See pic. It functions the same as the bolts you're familiar with....except is has a valve to shut off fuel. But I have no need for this, especially since it leaks.....there's a stop lever at the IP. I believe it originally had a black knob on the top.

Bolts

AFAIK the bolts are the same in all models using that filter. Any one should work. Thanks for posting the pic, your shutoff valve is definitely missing a knob at the top.

Redundancy is odd, huh? Why would anyone need BOTH a stop lever AND a valve at the filter?

NOW it makes sense! I was lost with the post title. It had my head hurting trying to figure it out why a oil filter had a "shut off valve".

It looks like an air bleed. How does it work as a shut off?
