Anyone know where I can get a pre-chamber puller?

I do have the tool that removes/installs the retaining collar for the pre-chamber, but I dont have an impact puller with the correct thread-size adapter to fit into the pre-chamber to pull it out. I tried Performance Products and they dont have any available to rent at the current time, and they can't tell me when any are due back (duh???).

I'm sure any standard impact puller would do, but I need an adapter to fit the injector threads...anyone have an old injector I could modify?? Any other suggestions??

(This is the last thing I need to switch heads...I'm hoping to do the work on March 30-31.)

Thanks,

MarkM

Prechamber Puller Adapter !

Check these guys out:

http://www.samstagsales.com/

or these guys,

http://www.baumtools.com/english/index.cfm

or this guy,

http://rusty.mbz.org/

I'm anticipating head job on my 603 so I've been studying up! Good Luck!

p. S. How about a compression tester adapter? It will have the same threads as an injector and a threaded hole centered in the top. Like this one?

Dimensions?

As I believe it threads into the the prechamber in place of an injector it would have the same dimensions as a injector threading! Maybe not but it would seem so.

My impression was that the part that put pressure on the head... to pull against is not symetrical... anyone know for sure,,, ?

Lightbulb Tool Design

I certainly could be wrong as I have not examined the tool itself but I got the impression, from the diagrams I've seen. that an adapter is secured to the shaft of a slide hammer. After the injector and the prechamber's retaining ring have been removed the adapter piece is threaded into the prechamber in place of the injector. The slide hammer is then used to slap the prechamber up and out from its' recess in the head. The reverse action could be carefully applied to put prechambesr into their respective head recesses also. Although with a new head, clean recesses, and prechambers you may be able to just drop them in. It does not appear that there would be any other contact with the head itself. But I'll be happy to learn anything as I'm anticipating possibly having to do this procedure.

The only one I have seen,, and which I think I can duplicate is shown in the Factory Shop Manual...617.95 Turbo Diesel engine page 01.8-417/5 F2 .... it pulls it out with a combination of threaded sleeves and nut which is turned with an open ended wrench, because above it is a hand tap holder type of arrangment...the base is at an angle and may have a couple of bosses on it..... I rented the one from Performance Products

and it is like BillyBob says - it's a slide hammer with the proper threaded adaptor welded on the end. It is my opinion that if you have the head off all you need to do is bang them out with a rubber mallet (from the cylinder side obviously) once the lock ring is removed.

I ordered the fitting that threads into the pre-chamber from Samstag Sales. I will make some type of slide/impact hammer on my own to fit into this thing...should be no problem.

Thanks a lot

I loaned mine to ncarter on the website. His wife was due having a baby about the time I sent it to him, so I suppose his project got bogged down. If he ever gets done with it, you are welcome to use it next.

Have a great day,

Thanks

Thanks a lot, Larry. I may take you up on this, but I think I can probably rig something up given that I bought the tip that fits into the prechamber. I'll let you know.

Larry, please read my post on advice related to valve seats...I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks a lot.

Larry...one more thing

I had to read your reply a few times very slowly to make sure I understood...at first, I thought your friend needed an impact puller BECAUSE his wife was having a baby!!!!

Thanks again,

Mark
