what do you think of this $750 '87 300d- smokes

1987 Mercedes Benz 300D

it says...
"Car runs smokes due to one bad injector transmission runs great. 328k miles. Can be driven away. Call me 9197103536 Jimmy"

shouldn't there be gills on the passenger front fender?

No fender grills on the '87.

Lots of stuff to look over on an older car...especially for $750...

I'd see if the the seller is willing to let you pull compression numbers to confirm that the smoke isn't due to bad rings... if nothing else, at least do the blow-by test.

Worth taking a chance for that price....if in fact it drives fine.

Ask him how he knows it's bad injector.

At 328k it will need a hell of a lot more then just injectors....its a good price but you got to ask your self how much are you willing to put into it...

Would be easy to test injector. Should not smoke when driven, only at low revs.
Blowby would show a bit.
See if coolant looks good.

What color smoke? If white, assume a cracked head. Signs and symptoms would be similar to a blown head gasket. Even if it does have a cracked head, and you feel like a project, the price (possibly negotiable down some) is right.

You can perfectly get $500 in scrap alone. Go ahead!

Could be the turbo sucking oil ,this you would want to watch carefully if you buy it,rev the motor ,if the smoke gets denser at rpms youve got a leaking seal. This is one possible concern.Nothing like learnen while your tinkeren son.
